We have been given a hitachi dvd 305 player, which may possibly be broken, but I'm going to try and fix it before I throw it away.

The hitachi welcome screen appears and I have access to the setup menu.

But the player will not read ANY discs, when you press play I get a red circle type warning in the top right hand corner of the screen and the message :

Cannot read disk.
Please check disc.

Any suggestions, is it the laser, has it been hacked already, is their a factory reset ?
