  1. I am thinking about buying the Napa DAV-311 and I need to know wether or not it plays VCD's version 1.1 because that's the version I make on my Terapin. Does it come with an ac/dc adapter of any sort? If you have any info, please send it to ps2guy525@yahoo.com. Thanks

I own a Napa DAV-311 and the Terapin CDs (VCD1.1) not only play perfectly on it, the Napa combined with a 17" television, results in incredible quality when the source of your VCD video was a DVD recorded on the Terapin via S-Video.

The Terapin/Napa DAV combo is definitely a winner.

  3. Wow ANTNYMD, Are you my lost twin brother. I've talked to you in a diffrent post about the terapin and now I see you own a napa as well. The napa was going to be my birthday present but I chose the terapin instead but I must say that the napa is my next electronic purchase(just have to come up with an excuse for my wife- so I can buy it). How do you like the napa?Does the napa have pitch control (great feature for dj's-me)like its previous version(Dav-310) if you could let me know I really appreciate. GOTERAPER- if your going to buy the napa player check out mp3playerstore.com they have the cheapest prices(cheaper than buying a used one off ebay)also they package it with a 5.8" tv screen for under $200.00 there arre two tv screens to choose from. Check it out I'll email you as well

If I recall correctly, the Napa DAV-311 is just an older Napa with a slightly better laser mechanism. So it should have all the same features you know from previous models.

I too purchased this Napa player from mp3playerstore. I originally purchased a (no longer available) portable player from them because the page for it contained the SVCD logo, and I was excited to get one. When that player arrived not only did it not play SVCDs of any kind, the rechargeable battery in it was something out of the stone age. I called up mp3playerstore and explained what my expectations were versus what actually showed up on my doorstep. Not only did they gladly exchange that player for the Napa, but they shipped the Napa to me for no additional charge. I can recommend them based on my experience .. .and their price is hard to beat.

My initial thought about an external screen for the Napa is that I would skip it if it had been available when I made my purchase. Of course, if you have a little carrying bag for your player and the monitor, that might not be too bad. I recently bought a portable DVD player so I am using that when I'm mobile, and the Napa is attached to the television in my bedroom.

I wonder, are the little monitors they're selling for the Napa .. are they 4:3 aspect or 16:9?

  5. Thanks again ANTNYMD, I think the screens they sell are 4:3, as for the question I asked you the 309 didn't have the pitch control but I read on epinions that the 310 did, that's why I was asking you. I don't know what I'm going to do now I found out that apex is making portable dvd players(three models) with screens $230(4"screen-coming out in May), $350(6"widescreen-no date available)and $450(7"widscreen-coming out in June). However those are suggested retail prices so we should expect to see them for less than that.Just another factor in my dilema.TECHNOLOGY-It's like the weather here in New England wait a minute and it changes. By the time I buy a portable device they will provbable have something else available

Where did you read about portable Apex DVD players? Post a link -- I'd like to read more about it.

  7. Actually ANTNYMD, I read it in a home theater magazine called Sound and Vision (May issue). The article is short, with a bunch of charts for dvd players under $500 it really didn't get into any specifics but I think those prices will be the cheapest around for portable dvd players. The cheapest I've seen so far is the rca and audiovox so I'm sure that those prices will be less when they realeased into retail store>even still I think I might get one even with one a 4 inch screen you must be able to plug it into a regular tv,(great for going up to my cottage on the lake).Well let's wait and see what happens I think I might just surf on over to apex site right now. 8. Hey wow that was fast I'm back.I just went to www.apexdigitalinc.com, and boy am I excited the lowest priced one that I told you about is model PD-50 and it says on their site that the screen size is actually 5.8". I guess the magazine was wrong about the screen size.I hope they're not wrong about the price, I mean if it's only $230 with a 5.8" screen then I'll probably buy this instead of the Napa.I don't know if you know this yet but someone made a post about the Napa 510 dvd player(I've been waiting to see this product come out for over two months).I'm going to invesigate that one as well, there is no screen it is just a player like the 311, but if the price is right I might buy that. Talk to you soon, ED[/u]

I just bought an RCA 5.8" portable for $499, but I'll be first in line to buy an Apex portable -- I dunno. They shall surely play everything just as the settop Apex players do. If it plays DVD-Audio or SACD, I'll pre-order the damn thing!

Back to the Napa ... I see value in having both the Napa and a portable DVD player. Aside from having lots of toys around, I like having multiple settops and portables to test compatability of discs I make across many machines.
