  1. Hi
i have a Intel i7-6700 cpu (3.4Ghz) but megui only uses 25% of it in first-pass (x264)! it's very low
    What should i do?

Use CRF (Constant Quality), to skip the first pass. Lower CRF is better and give higher file sizes. Pretty common CRFs used are anything from 18-23. You will just have to test it out and get a feel for it. You won't know the file size in advance, but you will know what quality it will be in advance.

    I need to use 2-pass
Is there anyway to optimize 2-pass cpu usge?

Not that I know of. I don't use it unless an exact filesize is needed, which is just about never.

  5. I never use 2 pass either but I gave it a quick try with MeGUI and the 1st pass was pushing the CPU to 100% (DVD source). There's an option in the x264 encoder configuration to set the number of threads. Maybe you should check it. By default x264 should use 2.5 x the number of CPU cores. ie 6 threads for a 4 core CPU, or probably 12 threads if it has hyper-threading. I couldn't see any mention of the thread count in MeGUI's log file with the thread count set to auto, so it doesn't help.

  6. cpu usage by itself only provides part of the information. FPS is important too. For example if you use custom slow 1st pass settings, you might get 100% cpu usage but encoding might be 10x slower

Need more info about source characteristics. eg. UHD HEVC is going to have different decoding characteristics than SD MPEG2

Maybe you have other bottlenecks, like slow input filters etc... so post your script and settings

Are you using any other filtering?
