I have a Canon HFG25 camera. I hate auto-exposure because every time someone with black clothes walks into the picture the picture goes lighter, and when you tilt the camera up including more sky all the rest of the picture goes dark. I know you can set the camera to manual exposure, but it is so much hassle to do that before every shot. Is there some way to set the camera so that when you are not recording auto-exposure is operating, but as soon as you press the record button the exposure freezes/locks? That would be so useful because auto-exposure is good for setting the exposure correctly, but I don't want it operating when I am shooting.

  2. There are several methods. See page 60 of your manual.

Thanks for the reply. But all those methods require you to press FUNC EXPOSURE etc. This is what is so time consuming before every shot, and it has to be every shot because you have to turn the camera off between shots or the battery goes flat. I need it to automatically lock the exposure when you press the record button, then unlock it when you stop recording.

I have found a compromise way of doing it. By assigning the CUSTOM button to exposure, and pressing it before each shot. A lot quicker than doing FUNC > EXPOSURE > MANUAL
