  1. Hi, I have been trying to capture video from my DirecTV mini genie on an HDMI video capture box called YK918H. I believe it is the same thing as the HDMI cloner box. well, everything seems to work fine but when I want to watch the file it doesn't work. I tried Avideux and it keeps saying something about a demuxer. Other video players can't detect the file time. please help.

Try playing it with MPC-HC (Media Player Classic Home Cinema).

It that fails make sure it is not recording the encrypted HDMI signal?
On my YK918H device i need to keep the recording button pressed for about 5~10 seconds to disable HDMI/HDCP protection.

    Well..
If possible try another HDMI recording source?
What version of the capture/cloner box is it?, there are so many versions around.
You could upload a (short) sample recording for us to analyse?

  8. The_Doman is correct. The file is full of nothing but about 17 million zeros.

As I recall from a thread last year, the HDML Cloner box came with equipped with firmware which allowed it to decode HDCP, but cracked firmware needed to be installed for the YK918H device to ignore HDCP.

We still not know what kind/version of YK918H clone box you have?
The original cloner box or one of the many copied versions around?

No, I don't and unfortunately when I went back to the thread mentioned above to check on the link to the hacked firmware that appeared in one of the posts, my security software issued a malware warning after I clicked on the link.

Any link to the product page/ad of the capture box may be usefull?
Because most copied cloner versions mention the HDCP defeat/decoding option.

It still possible there still something else going wrong?
Does the HDMI passtrough function of the box work properly?
Is the incoming signal correctly detected (flashing green or blue )?

Here is where i got it from
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/YK918H-HDMI-HD-HDD-Video-Capture-Box-/171520719453?

It passes through after i hold the record button for like 3 seconds and it does flash when recording.

Here is a video of a someone posting firmware/recovery files for what seems to be the same device as yours?
Youtube: YK918H Velocap HDMI Rec Unbrick step by step

If indeed nothing else is working you sure can try to flash the included firmware?

But possible the device could be faulty?
It is worrying of course your recordings apparently are just empty with totally nothing in it??

Good to have it working then at last!
Possible the USB device was in some incompatible format with the box, EXFat may be?
It should work with FAT32 and NTFS.
You have to find out if it splits the recordings in 2GB chunks when using NTFS or not.
Latest clonerbox firmware versions should be able to record in one continuous file when using NTFS.

  20. i originally had it in NTFS

i have the HDMI cloner box
a 90 min 720P movie is just over 6GB one file, using my NFTS drives and sticks

this discussion highlights the fact, there are Major differences, between the original cloner box firmware and the copies firmware

and possibly low quality reject chips, being used in the copies
