You can start by uploading a mediainfo (text mode) report of a capture. And you will never get HD quality out of a SD mpeg2 capture devioce.

But you are dealing with VHS and more work is done post-capture than in the capture process.

  3. easycap is SD mpeg2?
    and TV card also?

and what work is needed after the capturing?

  4. As DB83 says, you're dealing with VHS as your source, so the resolution is not that good to start with....
I used an EZcap 116 to capture the clip attached to THIS POST and found the resolution acceptable from the device - certainly on a par with my Canopus DV ADVC50 converter.
I think it's typical of the resolution you can expect to get from a VHS source......

Your easycap - you have not said if you are using an official ezcap or one of these cheap fakes which itself could affect quality - will capture at a maximum of 720*576 pixels (PAL) or 720*540 pixels (NTSC). This is what we talk of as SD definition (In fact this is actually higher than what VHS is)

Capture bitrate is also important which is why I asked for a mediainfo report.

Any analogue to digital capture device or SD tv card will capture at this definition and not higher. You can, potentially, get better definition from a ADVC device which converts the VHS to a DV avi as my friend above mentions. I also use one of these but a ADVC 300.

I can not speak of HD capture devices since I do not use one. There are many threads on here about these. And they do cost a lot more than that easycap.

Impossible to advise what post-production work is required since every capture is different. This is done using avisynth which has a very steep learning curve
