  1. OK I need to take some clips from movies and create a new one for a class in school. I have the DVDs and really don't want to get the VHS and then capture them, I would rather rip the DVD to a file type like avi mpeg or even mov that I can then edit. What would be the fewest steps?
    Please Help!!

  3. ...rather than the fewest steps I would suggest the most easiest program
    -> DVD2SVCD
    Which from a user point a view also has only a few steps (but internally a lot of actions/processes are started but you wont have to initiate those steps)

    after selecting the ifo file of a dvd in dvd2svcd you can even select specific chapters of interest (by clicking in the time duration field after the ifo file is read), convert it and then further edit it with a video editting program for special parts you want to use

    I you only want photo snapshots you can use Power DVD to make snapshots (and they are pretty good too)

    good luck,

    Bart.

  4. Is there anything special I need to know to use DVD2svcd? I ran it on one as a test and it got to the bbmpeg step and came back with an error. I read the guide on doom9 is there another guide or walkthrough?

    Thanks for the help!!!

  6. Alright I have successfully completed one but now I don't know what to do. I have different file types in the directory such as .bin and .cue and .mpg and .mp2 as well as a .vob file. Do I need to burn the bin file to a cd or dvd and then I can edit it or what because I can't even open any of the files. I haven't tried opening the .vob file yet but I can't edit that anyway. I need to be able to take a file and get it to the harddrive so I can edit it. I really do appreciate the help so far!!! Any further pointers or ideas?

  7. Use the S-video out from your set-top DVD player and capture in S-video. Fastest way to do it while maintaining high picture quality. Then just edit. That is all...

  8. that's not faster than encoding in MPEG II CBR mode

    ...uh if you have a PIII 1.2 GH or Athlon 1.2+ Ghz

    bwt, if you have the bin files (like you said) you selected one of the vcd imager options in DVD2SVCD
    which you do not need of course if you only want to go edit the mpeg/mpv file.
