point 1. When posting a question on these forums, please supply as much info as you possibly can, its surprising what little details could be relevant.
point 2. Under virtualdub don't forget to select a suitable audio compressor (such as MP3) as well as converting the video to Divx.
point 3. converting VCD to divx, ensure you select a lower than default bitrate in the divx config, otherwise you are just wasting data.
