So I got the PVR a couple days ago and finally had time to set it up to capture. Downloaded all the drivers and even power cycled it like the instructions said to reset the firmware.

The problem is that, even though I get video and audio in the capture utility, I only get picture on my TV. Without the HD PVR, the sound comes through like normal, so it's not the HDMI cable and it's not HDCP.

Is there anything I can do to fix the issue or should I just return the PVR for a hardware issue?

It could be an HDMI handshaking issue between the HD-PVR 2 and the TV. If you are using an HDMI splitter between the HD-PVR 2 and the video and audio source to remove HDCP, try connecting the TV to the unused splitter output instead of the HD-PVR 2's HDMI out.

I never said the OP shouldn't update his capture software.

However if that doesn't help and the OP already has a splitter, my solution is also a low-cost fix. Connecting the TV directly to the splitter has the added benefit of allowing one to use the source device with the TV even if the HD-PVR 2's power supply is not plugged in.
