  1. This may seem stupid, but I'm having a really hard time making heads or tails out of the dvd standard "war". It seems like this +rw is pretty cool, but of course the only real info I can find is from the group which endorses it's adoption, the DVD+RW Alliance. I'm interested to hear from some of you about why you feel one way or the other is better.

Thanks in advance, and thanks to all who post easy-to-follow how-to's. You guys are awesome! 8)

  2. Here's a good summary from the DVD FAQ: http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#4.3

Existing DVD+RW drives, however, will probably not be able to be firmware upgraded to write DVD+R discs though: http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=86751&highlight=

There are newer DVD+R/+RW drives on the horizon though.

    Regards.

  3. Thanks, that helped a lot- I actually bought the HP 100i drive in total ignorance... I figured since cd-rw came after cd-r, then so too would dvdrw follow dvdr. And the guys at Best Buy were kind enough to sell me the dvd+rw burner, tell me it would burn to write-once media, and on top of it all, sell me two 3-packs of dvd-r (that's right, minus-r) disks.

I blame myself for being ignorant enough and not researching it, though. I returned the drive and am contemplating the 200i for write-once capability, but now I'm wondering if the + is the way to go. Can anyone tell me why it's not?

  4. The salespeople at Best Buy are idiots(poorly trained).
Most DVD players can only play DVD-R,check "DVD Players" for
    compatibility.
