I realise this is basic stuff but I'm very confused. Hope someone can help.
I'm trying to record my old VCRs to my PC's hard drive, then possibly later burn to DVD. My card is an ATI all-in-wonder 9800.

Well, I've managed to connect the VCR to the PC. I can see either TV or VCR on the supplied ATI TV viewer or my Roxio 8 software.

When I play the VCR, I can view on monitor no problem. When I press 'record' to save to hard drive, both programs kind of crash.

The ATI software keeps playing but just locks up...can't do anything but Ctrl+Alt+del.
The Roxio program acts really weird. The volum goes VERY loud, and it starts 'echoing' and getting 'stuck', and muffled sounding.
Again, I've to shut software down to stop it.

    Any ideas??

  2. Years ago I used to capture tapes to HD which could cause problems (like dropped frame, audio sync), then edit, then convert to MPG2, then create menu, etc.

Now it's just so much easier to record on DVD recorder, edit if you want in TDA (I use 3), create a menu, and be done with it in ¼ the time with lots less to go wrong.

    Just my take on this.

I use an earlier AIW 7500 and can capture without any problems. What Catalyst drivers are you using and which version of ATI MMC? What preset setting are you trying to record in?

Lordsmurfs site ( www.digitalfaq.com ) has a lot of good advice regarding AIW cards and capturing. Try having a read through that first.

Apart from the software side , have you any addon pci cards , and which slots might they involve .

Pci1 is first down from agp .

    List them .

Second , list usb devices con-currently connected to system when trying to record .
