    Windows 7

    ipconfig /flushdns
    nbtstat -R
    nbtstat -RR
    netsh int reset all
    netsh int ipv4 reset
    netsh int ipv6 reset
    netsh winsock reset

    Reboot

Your connected but no browser works:

If via adsl, wireless dongle, cable you should confirm the DNS server ip's on incoming side from service provider ... if for any reason their dns servers are having issues this will cause pages not to load

Reset web browser ... in ie

Open the Control Panel (icons view)
Click on the Internet Options icon.
Close all open Internet Explorer windows
Advanced tab, then reset button below
    Once completed reboot the system

  6. Describe more fully "it doesn't work". Describe more fully your network connection, including other devices and PC's. Attempt multiple sites in multiple browsers, disable all add-ons. Run IE in no add-ons mode, from accessories menu. If other devices connected, disconnect and power them down.

Power off router and/or modem, eliminate router if separate and connect by hardwire directly to modem if even remotely feasible. This one is important, put some effort into it.

Command prompt, ipconfig/all. Ping your gateway, DNS, and PC ip addresses, several times over at least an hour or so. Report any variation from 4 "reply from".
If DNS is same as gateway, ping 75.75.75.76, and 63.75.167.11. Ping microsoft.com and google.com. You need to verify these work consistently.

Netsh int ip reset > reset.log, at command prompt. flushdns and winsock reset next, if needed.

Examine network connections for IE for any proxy settings. Eliminate if found. Disable and re-create LAN connection, re-booting in-between and checking for proxy each time. If symptoms described accurately, fairly high probability here, if any virus recently removed, odds skyrocket on this one.

Repeat both Ping and multi-site, multi-browser test at each paragraph.

  7. Well I got it going, it was stuck on the internet explorer proxy setting, which I checked before and there was no check mark beside the proxy, but when I went to check it again, it was there.

This was surprising to me because I expected that to only affect IE and not firefox and chrome that I tried.

    Thanks all.

  8. Do a thorough virus scan, including rootkit check, temp and registry clean, and more than one scanner. Proxy changes are quite often an indicator of virus activity.

FF defaults to "use the system" proxy settings, which is the proxy set in IE.

I lost Internet connection on W7 a few days ago. After many hours trying everything, I did a system restore, the oldest restore point I found. That fixed the problem. Had to reinstall a couple of things and do updates. Working fine now.
