I have 16:9 and 4:3 SD video I want to combine in the same DVD project using Vegas Pro 9.

How do you tell Vegas to make the 4:3 portions pillarboxed into a 16:9 image?

    Thanks.

It might be even simpler than that. If your 4:3 video is properly flagged it should pillarbox automatically when you throw it into a 16:9 timeline.

The idea is the black background is your canvas. Then you resize your media to whatever you want within that canvas using Pan/Crop/TrackMotion tools. Each piece of media is merely an element that combines with the black background.

The Pan/Crop tool can be used as a zoom in and out tool as well. You can lock the AR and resize to the exact dimensions you need using the dialog bog on the left. If you think along those lines, there's no need to be concerned with flags or whatever.

Vegas does certain things to help newbies along, so forget about what Vegas thinks of the media, or how it interprets it. You're the boss.
