Hi guys,
I am not sure if anyone here can help me, but I am going to try anyways.
I have just upgraded my computer in many categories. I just installed my first SSD drive for my Windows OS, and I have Sony Vegas Pro 12 now for my video editing.
I am having an issue with my AMD Catalyst software and Sony Vegas.
I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I have a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H (Rev 3.1) motherboard with 16 gigs of Quad Channel Corsair memory. I am running an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T (6core of course) processor.
Now, I am still using all the on board video at this point. I have an decent NVIDIA with CUDA technology card coming soon. But until then, I am using the on board graphics card for this motherboard. It has the AMD AMD 880G chip set, which has the ATI Radeon™ HD 4250
with DirectX 10.1.
I went to AMD's website and downloaded their Catalyst software witch updates all the drivers and what not for the chipset. I then installed Vegas Pro 12. When I got to launch Vegas Pro 12, it was loading all my VSTs and the I/O just fine. Then it foze and crashed out at the "Initializing GPU-Accelating Video Processing..." part. I then installed my latest copy of Vegas 11, and it did the exact same thing, except the GPU acceleration part is the second thing it tries to load, so it crashed almost right away.
Not sure what was causing the issue, I decided to remove all of the AMD stuff. I went to my uninstall programs window, and selected the Catalyst software. In the uninstall options, I click "Remove all AMD software and drivers". When that I was done, I was required to reboot.
When I go back to my desk top after the reboot, both Vegas 11 and 12 loaded right up with out any issues what so ever. Thinking I may have downloaded the wrong AMD options, I then decided to go back to their website and double check that I got the right download package. My board has the series 8 chipset, so I went here and got it:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx#2
I installed all the drivers and the Catalyst software and let it do it's thing.
After it was done, both Vegas Pro 11 and 12 went back to freezing at the 'Initializing GPU-Accelating Video Processing..." part.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I fret that if I un-install all the AMD updates, other hardware I have, like my Line6 UX8 audio interface may not function properly, which I need for the audio portions of my video editing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i'd run a video card testing program. it might be a bad built in chip.

i went to that page you listed. it's just chipset mb drivers. don't you also need to then install the video driver? i never built an amd comp with a built in chip but i would think so...

The catalyst software bundle I downloaded installs the driver for the graphics card too.

yes that puts the video card into legacy vga mode.

So I am not real sure how to use this tester thing you have shared with me haha. I don't wanna mess up on onboard stuff with it. What should I do? It syas doing an in burn test is a high performance operation and to do it at my own risk?

it tests how fast the card is, so it will make it run 100% for awhile. can cause crashing on unstable/defective video cards.
