Hello folks, new to all this. Not clear on one point. In cabling the VC500 to camcorder, do I connect the "S" cable and the three line RCA cables?

Connect the S-video port and the red and white audio lines. I think the white audio connection is preferred if the camera has mono audio. The yellow port is for composite video, which you don't need if you are using S-video.
Some cameras do such a poor job with S-video output that the owners find composite to be a better choice. If yours is one of them, be aware that don't need to connect S-video if you are recording from composite. -
Thanks usually_quiet for the good info. I'll know shortly if the S video is better quality, I have a old Sony TRV65 camcorder with Hi8 tape.
