Are there any freeware titles that will edit a DVD without re-encoding? Or are all of the titles shareware/commercialware?

  2. Depends on the kinds of editing you want to do. If you mean cutting on the exact frame as in your other thread (and smart rendering between GOPs), then I don't know of any free ones. Some have trial periods, though, ones such as VideoReDo.

If set up correctly, Cuttermaran can cut MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio on any frame, and only re-encodes where necessary. (It will not re-encode if cuts are placed so the clips to be retained start on an I-frame and end on an I-frame or P-frame. Otherwise, it will re-encode, but only to fix any incomplete GOPs adjacent to cuts.)

However, Cuttermaran can't edit VOBs. It requires video and audio input to be demultiplexed, and it can't edit subtitles. ...and of course edited material has to be re-authored for use on a DVD again.

Mpg2Cut2 is totally free, though it only cuts on I-frames.
