I don't know what has happened but my capture of video sound is having an issue. I don't know for sure what could have happened. I am taking and capturing VHS tapes to put them on DVD. I am using a Canopus ADVC50 to do the capture. I had sound when I first started but for some reason the sound will not capture. I have checked the cables and the audio is hooked up but for some reason it is not capturing it. Does anyone know what could be the cause? I know that is a big question but any hints. I am using the capture that comes with V12. Windows 7 Professional on a 64bit machine. I have never had any problem before today as I have done it before.

I am thinking it may be a driver issue. When I go into the capture device software and click capture it starts but what happens is the pause button on the software seems to stick if that makes any sense. When I click on the play button the sound starts but it goes immediately off of the play button back to the pause and the sound stops. It seems maybe like a driver issue for the 1394 device. I am not sure if there is an update somewhere for it. I have tried but nothing seems available.

I don't know what to try. I have tried WinDV and it worked for a tape but now it does not work anymore for some reason. I hooked up and elgato through usb but it compressed it so much that it looks like crap. Is there any usb one that is reasonable priced that will not compress the video coming in? I don't think for some reason that my canopus is going to work anymore even though it worked on my other machine in W7.

Only true measure is where two systems are exactly alike ... if the motherboard or os versions are different then comparisons tend to be inaccurate.
You should reload the device drives first, then grab audacity and see if it can capture audio ... if so then it points to an issue in V12 ... which I take you meant video studio, yes, crystal ball broke
You may need to reinstall V12 and reboot, thou if there are any system registry issues causing the problem you could be facing an os reinstall to solve the issue.
If audacity also has issue from device then its possible the device has a fault, thou I would replace all cables to double check first before replacing the device
