Older AVI standards limited avi's to 2gb, modern AVI standards limit an avi to 4gb - its not a Win2k issue.

Use a "multi-segment" capturing program (to capture the video to consecutive files) to overcome this - like VirtualDub.

HillJack that no t ture I capture 20gig with no multi-segment in VirtualDub.
IvoMatko start with a clean disk DO NOT EVER upgrade you be ask problem.
HillJack is about half rigth some capture apps do not allow capture to go over 2gig or 4gig.
AVI_IO and VirtualDub can the biggest I have do was 75gig under VirtualDub hehe.
Now that I hardware MPEG capture I don't need a ton of space like before.

perhaps a bit offtropic, but what the hell: do you think (or preferably know) it is possible to run Windows '98 with NTFS (and be able to get 4GB+ files)

and then Q2: How do i pull this together?

There is/was a utility that would let you access an NTFS drive under Win9x as though it was a native FAT drive. Whether you can read/write files > 4GB to it, thats another story (I don't use that util anymore, I havent for years).

Problem is, you need to format the drive as NTFS - a program like Partition Magic could do that.

I'll dig through my old CD's and see if I still have the NTFS util.

there is a read only NTFS driver for win98 there as well as information about how to purchase a read/write version.

oh and remember that you cannot boot to the NTFS partition in windows 98 even if your are using this driver. So it still needs to be formatted in FAT32.

Also you won't be able to use Partition Magic according to the commercial version's page.
"Due to an incompatibility, NTFS for Win98 is not able to mount partitions modified by Powerquest's Partition Magic."

I would clear out space for the NTFS partition, get a Windows 2000 or NT 4 bootable cd, boot to the cd, and set up a NTFS partition using the setup program. After the partition is created and formatted by the setup program, you can hit the reset switch.
