Ok, so here's the deal; just got an new (to me) computer with XP SP2 on it. Uploaded Adobe Premiere 5. When I import an .AVI clip, I get no audio what so ever, even though the clip plays in WM fine. I've looked through everything I can think of within the programme, as well as in the sound section of th control panel.
Any ideas what I need to tweak to get P5 to play the audio as I watch the clip?
Cheers
Bill

Hopefully the fillowing is what you are after. I have captured video using Premiere (no audio was captured); VirtualDub (audio was captured, but not audible during capture) and Windows Videomaker (?) - again, no audio when capturing, but file plays fine in WMP.

You have an exceedingly ordinary DV .avi file. No reason it shouldn't play in everything. Try this, open the file in Premiere, edit it into a timeline and expand the audio tracks to reveal the waveforms. Does anything show up? If you see waveforms turn off either the left or right channel and see if you can hear anything. It could be the left and right tracks are out of phase and canceling each other out.

And how specifically are you "capturing?" By the normal usage of that word it shouldn't be necessary.

Interesting. The file d/l through Premiere shows no audio. But when I ripped the audio and placed it into 2nd position, its there!

Now, however, when I send the file for processing into a "Movie" Premiere wont do. Error is all I get.

I do have Tempgenc installed, and as I recall there is a way to send th file for processing through it. Any ideas where I can get that info to let me do that?

Download and install Debugmode Frameserver (make sure to select Premiere Pro during installation as it gives option for other programs)
Open Premiere CS5, open your project, render whatever need rendering.
Export with Adobe Encoder, select Debugmode frameserver and create signpost.avi
Open TMPGEnc, within it open your signpost.avi and set your parameters (bitrate, etc), remember to select botom field first.
 Encode to selected folder.
When encode complete, return to Premiere and tell Frameserver to stop serving.
 Done.

Cheers for that Aedipuss, I'll give it a go. And yes I've installed new codecs to help with Virtualdub.
