  1. Loading an AVI in VirtualDub 1.4.8 failed with message "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd'. VirtualDub requires Video for Windows compatible codec (dsvd)..." Windows MP reads the file with video codec "DV Video Decoder" (but WMP truncated the bottom 1/7 of the screen). TMPGenc 2.51 reads the file as AVI, Interlace, Field Order B, 4:3 525 line (NTSC, 704 x 480). Ulead MSP 6.0 reads the file, as well.

I'm using Windows XP. I think I deleted the required dll (dvsd, VFW) while removing DVSoft and DVCodec from my system. (Before deletion Ulead MSP 6.0.02 would not recognize the AVI file.).

Isn't VFW built into Windows XP? How can I get (or restore) the necessary codec? Or, more specifically, how can I get VirtualDub and Ulead MSP to like this AVI at the same time?

    Thanks for all assistance, Bob

I have exactly the same problem.
On Windows XP VirtualDub will not open any of my AVI files,
which I captured with Ulead DVD MovieFactory.

  3. Not sure if this will help? I downloaded something from this page and it seemed to work for me, although I run with windows ME.
