  1. I am having this problem and can't seem to solve. I am using Virtual dub to capture, and while I hear sound when capturing, when I play back the captured file there is no sound. I have tried a couple of test captures with the ati software and it did get sound. My specs are as follows:

ATI All in wonder radeon (with latest drivers)
    MMC 7.6
    ATI DVD 5.0
    Soundblaster live soundcard
    Virtual dub 1.48

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have the line in set as input for recording (not just for playback, which lets you here it).

Double click on the 'loudspeaker' symbol on the task bar.

    Choose: Options / Properties

    Click on 'Recording'

    make sure line-in is selected

    Click OK,

Make sure the line-in level is turned up

(That's in Win2000, anyway, and I'm sure it is similar, if not the same, in all other flavours of Windows).

Of course, if it's not that then you have a big problem! Have you managed to record sound in any other application (eg soundrecorder)?

I have an AIW 128 Pro also and had the same problem when recording. Here is how I fixed it. I use WIN 98 and WIN2000 Pro.

    1. Double click your volume control.
    2. Click options.
    3. Click Properties
    4. Under adjust volume for click on recording
    5. Make sure under Show the following volume controls: You have the correct box marked for the input you are using I use line in so I have the following checked: Recording Control, Line-in, and CD Player
    6. Once set click OK
    7. You should now have the Recording Control panel
    8. Make sure your input is checked(check mark in select box)
    9. Now adjust the volume as needed( mine is two clicks up from the bottom for good input volume)
    10. Close out your record control and it will save the settings.

It took me about 6 trial recordings to get it set correctly and it stays there everytime I turn on the computer.

  4. Thanks for the sugestions. However, its not a line in problem because I hear sound from my source as its capturing and I have checked all settings on the sound control panel. It's just not there when I play back the file. When I use the ATI TV software to capture I do get sound on playback. Just no sound with virtual dub captures. I think it is a conflict between the ATI software and virutal dub but I don't know how to solve.

Actually you do not hear what you are capturing. The audio takes two different routes. The audio you are capturing to your hard drive is coming into the recorder section (record line input), being digitized and then saved on the hard drive. What you hear through your speakers is coming from the playback line input, and is going directly to the sound card.
