    Hi,

I just got my LG R399 recorder for the sole purpose of recording from the satellite. Our Antennas merely do anything that many new houses don't even have them. Problem is, whenever I want to do Timer Recording it assumes I want to do it from TV and gives me message "Try Channel Setup First". Well I don't want to.

I am connecting my Receiver to TV through the DVD Recorder. Normal recording works. I just need to set the channel manually on the receiver, and want the receiver to start recording in the appropriate time. Doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Can I do it? How? Any work arounds? Otherwise I have to be on the spot to do the recording, which kills the whole purpose of the recorder to me.

When setting up a timer program, one of the entries you make should be the "Source" which would be the line input you've got the receiver connected to (L1 or E1 or ?), rather than a channel. It might be in the "Channel" box, where you arrow right or left to switch from a channel number to a line input?

    Thanks for ur reply.

The Timer Record option is only available from Home Menu TV Category. Problem is, I can't get to the step of selecting the source. Once I click on the Timer Record option it automatically asks me to setup channels first! Do I need just to define a dummy channel so that it gets happy and allow me to select the source? I was thinking of trying that option.

I will try it once I get back home, but other than that. What should I do?

Yes, scan for channels since it needs that to allow timer rec source selection. It won't hurt but it'll satisfy the firmware/op system requirements. If you have options for the scan, just do analog just to get a scan done, even if you have to use rabbit ears so you scan in at least one channel.

  5. Hi wabjxo,

I searched the web for the solution to the same problem having purchased a LG RH397D today.

I surfed the web for a solution and saw your post. IT WORKED !! I was skeptical, having just about done everything I could, but it worked. I can't thank you enough !!!

I wanted to join this site to say thank you - I nearly lost what little hair I had....

    Cheers, The_Captain

Hey guys, am very pleased you got a solution - beware!! Do not buy LG model RH735T!!. The analog option does not exist so you cannot make a dummy channel. I am now stuck with the "press record button option" only.
