  1. I have an AIWA HV-MX1 that is in need of belts but am not sure of a good source.
I would prefer a kit for this machine since I suck at measuring belt (stretch them, don't stretch them, account for stretch, double the measured length of unbroken belt, etc.???)

Any suggestions are always greatly appreciated.

Your model isn't listed in the index, but it is worth giving them a call and seeing what they got in stock.

I'm glad to see someone else likes that VCR. I have one back in the states and thought it was a great machine. It has many detractors who also happen to never have owned one.

  5. Can I borrow your's until I sort this out?
I don't honestly have an opinion on it. I got it cheap from an estate sale a couple of years ago and it does it's job well. Has proven to be a pretty good work horse. It's not stereo, but most of the stuff I'm converting is shot by non-stereo camcorders, or where stereo doesn't really matter. It's a matter of people getting their memories to play here (or there).
Like all things it's value can be summed up this way: "It does it's job and I like the results."

My dad told me it no longer works...."the picture is all jumbled and black and white"....which means he has the settings screwed up. Now he is shitting the beat out of my monster Sony machine I'm sure.

  7. Sorry to be late posting a follow up to this:
Studio Electronics did not have a belt kit for the unit and wasn't sure if there was one.
I wound up borrowing a Sharp multi-system unit (non-converting) from a friend and used that to play to my WinTV-HVR-1950 set to PAL capture, then did a software conversion to NTSC with Tmpenc DVD Author. Worked well.

I understand I could have used the electronics in the AIWA HV-MX1 as a pass through to do the conversion in real time but this had not occurred to me during this conversion. I still have my friend's multi-system unit and I have some PAL tapes around here somewhere so I may experiment at some point.

As for belts... an electronics tech I know just told me about a place in Fairfield, NJ (about 10 minutes from where I live) that manufactures O-rings and to bring the belts to them, chances are they have the right sizes since none of the belts are ribbed or serrated O-Rings should work fine.
