I upgraded my version of x264VFW that I'm using in VirtualDub, and I got a three tabs window instead of a "static" one.
But in the previous version there was a "Preset" drop down menu that I can't find in this recent version.
What should I do to have the "Superfast" preset?
Please look at the images here if you shouldn't understand what I mean:

Thank you very much!![]()

Builds of x264vfw by different authors have different front ends. You need to find a build by the same author as the one you had before. Try the MasterNobody builds from here:
http://komisar.gin.by/
If you can't find what you want, this post has a list of the individual settings for the different presets:
https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/349386-Target-bitrate-for-720p-%28From-Blu-ray-sour...=1#post2188503
Note that the presets occasionally change so that list may not be entirely accurate. Some of the biggest contributors to CPU usage are me, subme, and ref.Last edited by jagabo; 15th Feb 2013 at 09:13.

superfast does the following
- superfast:
--no-mbtree --me dia --no-mixed-refs
--partitions i8x8,i4x4 --rc-lookahead 0
--ref 1 --subme 1 --trellis 0 --weightp 1
so simply adjust the vfw interface accordingly -
The builds by MasterNobody are hosted @ SourceForge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/
FWIW, I switched to komisar's builds ages ago. -

Before posting the first message I tried to do just what you said, i.e. adjusting settings accordingly to the preset, and I followed this guide:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:ABEBR-KIg40J:dev.gentoo.org/~bean...reference.html
(it's the cache version of the page since the original is unreachable here)
But the encoding speed didn't change very much.
I also tried entering "--preset superfast" in the command line text field, but I suppose it was overridden by the settings in the three tabs.
By the way, I was just using the latest Komisar's x264.2245kMod.x86.exe.
So I switched back to the one that I was using earlier, that is x264vfw_37_2200bm_33968.exe, the latest one from MasterNobody at SourceForge, and the speed increased very much, with acceptable quality for me.
I would like to keep the Komisar's version, but I don't know how to get the same speed of MasterNobody's superfast preset
I'll try your settings, Jagabo:
I'll let you know. Thank you all for the moment.Falco2000, video newbie.

Simplest way to use preset in my x264vfw build is use "Extra options"-box...
...or adjust "Analysis & Encoding"-tab (for superfast preset): only i8x8 and i4x4 partitions; "Max frame refs"=1; "ME algorithm"=dia; "Subpixel ME refinement"=1 QPel SAD; "Weighted P-frames"=Blind; "Trellis"=Off... PLUS in "Extra options"-box enter "--rc-lookahead 0"...
