This is the first time I find an mkv file where the audio seems to be FLAC. That is how Mediainfo identifies the audio track on this file.
    Code:
     General Complete name : C:\file.flac Format : OGG Format/Info : Free Lossless Audio Codec File size : 302 MiB Duration : 1h 38mn Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 428 Kbps Audio ID : 1646177158 (0x621EAB86) Format : FLAC Format/Info : Free Lossless Audio Codec Muxing mode : pre-FLAC 1.1.1 Duration : 1h 38mn Bit rate mode : Variable Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Bit depth : 16 bits Writing library : libFLAC 1.2.1 (UTC 2007-09-17)
So I extracted this FLAC file and tried to convert it to wav with FLAC Frontend. But it says there's an error. Message is: "Flac stream decoder error status lost sync". As I know FLAC files can be tricky, how should I proceed to convert it?

Dude, that kind of posting doesn't help anybody!

    Here's a more palatable version:
    General
    Complete name
    : C:\file.flac
    Format
    : OGG
    Format/Info
    : Free Lossless Audio Codec
    File size

    Overall bit rate
    : 428 Kbps
    Audio ID
    : 1646177158 (0x621EAB86)
    Format
    : FLAC Format/Info
    : Free Lossless Audio Codec
    Muxing mode
    : pre-FLAC 1.1.1
    Duration

    Bit rate mode
    : Variable
    Channel(s)

Note that the format is NOT FLAC, but OGG, using the flac codec. You will need to open the demuxed file in an ogg-aware app first. This kind of file is known as "OGG Flac". Look in the hydrogenaudio forums for some tools & methods to deal with this.

Sorry about the format things ended up. It's not my fault. Something in Mozilla or else is modifying the format of what I am sending. On my first try the text was continuous when I sent my explanation. Mixing my words with those of the file specs. If you could tell me how to avoid that, I'd be grateful. I will look for an Ogg Flac converter. It happened again. Look at the text above, no separate lines or anything!!!

Just to make things clear: this is happening with this site only.

Perhaps you didn't make a good job of extracting the audio.
Maybe it would be better to use mkvmergegui to create a mka file containing just the audio.
Then convert the mka to wav using FFmpeg/WinFF.

Today I downloaded WinFF, but I couldn't set things up to convert anything. The program is not too simple, in the sense that it doesn't load the usual files I'm used to, in audio or video. If anyone can tell how to use it, I'd be grateful.

  8. Try this:

    ffmpeg -i "input_video.mkv" -vn -f wav "output_audio.wav"

This question is still pending and I don't know yet how to convert this file. Got no help at hydrogenaudio forums. The only option I can think of, for now, is playing the file and using the phone output to go into my digital audio recorder. Then upload that file and sync it to the video. This would involve additional DAC and ADC steps, but I don't what other options I have.

  11. if you upload a small sample (can be created with mkvmerges split option), people might be able to help better,...

I can do that. How long should the mka files be? How many minutes?

If you looked in the dialog box for uploads, you'd see that your max size is 100MB. So, however many minutes will fit into 100MB. Or less - there's no need to max it out. We only need a few seconds, probably.

  14. I agree a few seconds should be enough.

The sample is decoded OK with both ffmpeg and eac3to.

Give a try to LameXP or foobar2000, if you do depend on a GUI so desperately.

Using GUI is not due to desperation, but to ignorance on how to do it in any other way.

If there's any other way, which does not involve using DOS and writing coded instructions, which I hate, please tell me how.

I have just tried LamedXP, but I could only load the org-flac file I had muxed, as it didn't accept converting from MKV or MKA. So I tried converting the whole file to wav, with no luck. It only got me a 10 minute file, not the whole file.

OK, success at last using foobar2000.

I had to use the mka file to do it, because if I used the 0gg-flac demuxed file foobar would split in several wav files.

What I did was convert the mka to wav, then use DVDLabPro to convert the wav file to AC3. Things ended up quite well.

    Thanks a lot!

  22. Hybrid two has no problems converting the file to ac3&co.
