This one never happened to me before.

I have an mkv file which seems to have a FLAC audio track.

How do I convert it to AC3 so I can author a new mkv file?

This mkv file is too big and I already tried to convert it to less than 8GB, to fit on a DVD-DL, and the resulting track was out of sync.

So I guess this might not be an easy task.

    What should I do?

    Demux the MKV with MKVExtractGUI-2.
Encode Flac to AC3 with Eac3to.
Remux with the elementary video back into MKV with MKVMerge.

Is there any other program I can do this with?

EAC3to and me do not seem to get along if I am in Win 7.

I load the file but I don't get anywhere.

Well, apparently things did work fine.

There might be a slight shift, but it's something I can correct when re-merging.

Nice to know about this program. Thanks!

    Just an add-on.

I checked the AC3 audio track merged on the smaller mkv file, and the sync is the same as the original mkv file.

Problem was Italian films from that time (60s and 70s) were all dubbed, with actors from different countries speaking their own language and then dubbed to Italian.

So sync was far from perfect.

But a rifle shot was spot on in sync, so that's the final say.
