  1. I just did my first successfully DivX to VCD. I followed the recommendations in the guide "VCDDivX to VCD MPEG All-In-One Guide"

The guide i ok but it does not explain why things are done the way they are, so I have a couple of question.

Why do the Audio-extracting? Why not just let TMPEnc do the whole thing?

On my AMD K5 450 it take about 5 hours to do 60 minute of encoding. Is that to be expected? And what influences the time? Is it just the processor?

if the audio is in vbr* you must extract it with virtualdub and 5 hours for 60 minutes sounds normal on a k5 450.

    *vbr=variable bitrate.

  3. Also, if you let TMPGenc do the audio on its own it takes a great deal more time.

Try it. Just load the same AVI again and choose it as source for the audio as well. Let the encode run for a bit and see what the estimated time is.

I let TMPGenc do everything in the beginning, but finally gave extracting the audio a shot and my encode times went down by almost half.
