  1. I have a DivX .avi that's 84minutes long.

I went to the bitrate calculator and choose 84 mins, 1-80min CD, sound 128kbps and then it said that the bitrate had to be 1160 to fit on one CD.

So I converted it using TMPGenc using the following settings:
    MPEG-1 352x240 23.976fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 128kbps

The file came out to be 833MB? Why is it so large? Shouldn't the file have come out to just under 800MB with the 128kbps audio? The bitrate calc says I could have even used 1160kbps for the video and it would have fit on one CD. I used less and it's too large.

Second question. How can I chop off 3 mins at the end of my VCD .mpg without doing a major reconversion?

    Thanks!

I don't try to fit them on one cd, so can't help. However you can use TMPGEnc to chop off junks, use FILE > MPEG tools > merge&cut

Set the dropdown to VCD (For a standard VCD or leave it as it is for non standard VCD's like you are making.

  3. Ok, thanks. Got that part.

Still hope someone can answer the other part though as I really would like to know why the filesize wasn't smaller.

    Something else doesn't make sense.

I chopped off 3 minutes and the filesize went from 831MB to 742MB.

3 minutes off an 84 minute movie shouldn't have caused such a drop, right?

Ok, so then I just chopped off about 20 seconds and the filesize went from 831MB to 752MB. Why was the original file so large when it shouldn't have been?

What was the original AVI ? was the audio Mp3 ?

    Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

You have only changed the audio ?
