  1. I have 2 video's that I wanted to load up onto my iphone. They're currently in MP4 format but they're huge files 1.2 gb for one hour. It's obviously higher quality but I was looking to shrink them down so they would be a better fit for the iphone. How can I do that? I tried using videora converter to shrink it down but the files come out all messed up. Anyone have any ideas what to do?

Try instead Handbrake, open the mp4, choose the iphone profile, set the file output size under video and convert.

Or try format factory, winff, xvid4psp, https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/portable-mobile-psp-ipod .

  3. Thanks. I figured out what I did wrong. I was actually trying to convert the file from an existing mp4 to a h.264 in videora. I left it as mp4 and it converted it down just as expected. Thanks for hte help Baldrick.

  4. I will try this technique with a large (2 plus Gb) with Handbrake. But I don't use iphone, just want a smaller size.

What resolution should I set in Handbrake and how do I get to it?

That is the first part of my question.

Second part is: what sort of output can I expect from Handbrake or even Vidcoder? Previously I have used the sequence of MakeMKV > process to h264 in Vidcoder for dvds. Repeatedly I find glitches in the video output. These glitches look like 'scan problems' producing square bar areas out of sequence with the playback. If there is a term for these artifacts I don't know what it is.)

Is there are any newer/better free tools than Handbrake/Vidcoder?

You don't set anything....the presets in HandBrake take care of that for you. Just use the iPhone, iPod Touch preset and fire away. You can choose/check box LARGE FILE SIZE but that will sort of defeat the purpose of you using HandBrake in the first place.

WinFF is also a good alternative.
