Is there a software tool that would allow me to zoom and pan video in post?

What I am thinking of is to place several small, inconspicuous (Bloggie-like) hi-def video recorders in fixed locations before a concert. Let them run for the entire concert, recording audio separately. Then, can I edit all the video, zooming, panning, cutting, etc., to produce an end product in standard def, but with dynamic shots?

In other words, get a sort of three shot project from 3 static video sources?

any decent editing software(vegas, premiere, etc) has pan and zoom functions. they are just like a camera "digital" zoom. quality gets crappy just as quickly.

  3. Go to youtube and search for "Ken Burns effect". You'll find lots of tutorials.

    Thank you.

The thing is, I'm looking to pan and zoom on live video, not a still from video.

It's no different, really. You just apply the filters to a video clip instead of a still.

That's why I'm wondering if everything in the final product can appear at standard def resolution. So, I start with hi-def, and do any panning and zooming only to the extent of hi-def to std-def. Anything not panned or zoomed should also appear as standard def. In other words, anything not zoomed would be downsampled.

I want to start with three static hi-def videos and wind up with a single std def video that cuts, pans, and zooms among the three original. So, the "crappiness" would be limited to no worse than standard def. That will probably not allow very mucyh panning and zooming, but just a bit would be enough, I think.

Edit: I have not used any video editing software before. I will check it out. If I can buy the capability I describe, great. Even better if there is any open source that will do it.
