  1. I need help figuring out how to transfer my widescreen videos from my mini DV to my computer.

I have a Canon ZR600 mini DV camcorder that uses NTSC. I've shot some videos using the widescreen mode on the camcorder. My problem is that when I transfer them to my Windows XP computer, the video files turn out 720x480 (3:2), with the video horizontally squeezed.

I'd like to keep the widescreen aspect ratio on my videos. I'd prefer to have my videos as avi, but can be convinced otherwise.

I've tried using Windows Movie Maker, and have recently tried using WinDV.

What's the best way to transfer from my mini DV camcorder keeping the same aspect ratio?

    Thanks!

    Chris.

  2. This question has been asked and answered ad nauseum here, but here we go. 720x480 horizontally squeezed is absolutely correct for NTSC DV video.

On playback the pixels are displayed as 1.2 :1 rectangles, not squares.

  3. Both 4:3 and 16:9 DV use a 720x480 frame size. There is a flag in video stream that indicates what aspect ratio the video should be displayed at.
