I have been using DVD2SVCD for about 10 backups now. I never had a problem with this great program. I woke up today to do another one and this is where the problems began with my computer (not DVD2SVCD related).

As usual, I inserted the DVD into my player to play the movie for a few minutes as suggested by all the tutorials. Today I noticed the picture was "jumpy" (like my computer couldn't keep up with the movie) and not very smooth. This is what I have done so far to try to fix it...

    1) Did a system restore back to yesterday (when everything was running fine)
    2) Unsuccesfully uninstalled QuickTime which I installed yesterday (stupid program wont uninstall). I can't see this being the problem but it is the ONLY program I have installed between my last successfull rip and today.
    3) Did a defrag
    4) As always, I closed all non-essential programs
    5) tried other DVD's to see if maybe that one was flawed..not the problem obviously.

Listed below are my system details. Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be. I have been searching all day for an idea what to try but havent found any that I haven't already listed above. Do you think that it will affect my ripping?Thank you to everyone who replies.

  2. hard to tell with these all-in-one proggies like dvd2svcd and dvdx

try using the time-tested method of smartripper->dvd2avi->tmpgenc

very easy to diagnose problems because u have different programs for different steps...so you can pinpoint which steps are malfunctioning (also more flexible too)

Thanks for replying so quickly. Unfortunately, there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the programs I am using. It is the DVD I am having problems with. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, I am bad that way. The problem I am having is that when I play the original DVD on my computer (all the tutorials suggest playing the movie for a few minutes to help unlock it???). In the past I have played DVD's on the computer, and played the 5 minute "unlock" with no problems. Then suddenly I woke up and the movie is not playing properly on my computer... kinda jerks and kinda skips and isnt smooth at all. I have a 64 meg video card.

Any ideas on why the DVD is suddenly not playing properly on my computer and will this effect my ripping?

OK..just tried that...still nothing but good suggestion.

I also put in the DVD I watched yesterday (which I watched without a glitch) and it is also doing it now..... grrrrrrrrr.... it has to be something simple that I am missing...but what????

  6. Probably not this but.....

I once had a similar problem, games would play very jerky, and video would pause and stutter... It seems that one of my DIMM boards had somehow worked loose, and I was only running with 32mb.. check you still have all RAM you SHOULD have....
