try unplugging the unit and wating 10-15 minutes to see if it will reset itself.

Thanks. I tried but it did not work. There is definitely a wrong connection between the TV, DVD recorder, Videotron cable modem and the Videotron internet modem.

Does your RDR-GX380 respond to the remote at all? If so, try the hardware reset described on page 72 of the instruction manual. If you can't find yours. download it from Sony here.
If the machine won't respond to the remote, or the reset doesn't help, then you probably have a dead DVD drive which causes the unit to display an error or LIST. There isn't anything you can do in that case: Sony charges $250-$300 to install a replacement burner, much more than the whole unit is worth. Since you live in Canada, consider browsing Craig's List or Kijiji for a nice second-hand Sony RDR-HX780 or Pioneer DVR-450, 550, 460 or 560. These are all upgraded variations of your 380. Typical selling prices in Canada are $70-$150. (Of course you could also look for a functional used RDR-GX380, but they are strangely much harder to find now than the premium models and don't really cost any less if you do.) -
I have a Sony RDR-GX257 recorder that may be similar in operation to your RDR-GX380. LISt on the recorder display usually means you've pressed the "Title List" button on your remote to show a list of shows (titles) you've recorded on a blank DVD disc. If you're stuck in this display, try pressing the "Return" button on the remote to exit out. The "Return" button is one of the four tiny round buttons surrounding the big ring of cursor keys on the remote. I attempted to press the Record button while LISt is still on the display and it will not let me record a show, even though there is still room on the disc to add new shows. Maybe that's the problem.
Take the disc out of the recorder and put in a new blank DVD. See if you can record a new show again.
