DVD burning, syncing Sony VDR-VC20 recorder with Sony Fx2100 camera

I'm Video taping the high school football games here locally for the coaches and I was asked to try and burn it directly to a DVD as I'm filming on a Sony VDR-VC20 recorder. No problem I thought, but it doesn't want to synchronize with the operation of the camera. it continues to record after I hit the pause button. I went through the menus I set the recorder to SYNC, SP and connected to the AV input, etc. but with no results. the Video Camera is a Sony Fx2100. Is there a device I must add or a setting on the camera I may need to change to get it to synchronize correctly?
