  1. Okay, so I have some discs recorded onto a Funai recorder, but the title (only one on the disc) takes up double the space it would normally. Here's some screen captures to demonstrate. My ideal plan is to reauthor these to two different titles on one disc (other discs are recorded in the same way) but at this time, it won't be possible without compression.

    DVD Menu 2 - http://puu.sh/15q7z (Two titles?)

    DVD Shrink 1 - http://puu.sh/15q86 (Titles 1,3?)
    DVD Shrink 2 - http://puu.sh/15q8w (1 and 3 again)

    Windows Explorer 1 - http://puu.sh/15qad
    Windows Explorer 2 - http://puu.sh/15qaE
    Windows Explorer 3 - http://puu.sh/15qaX (Video_RM directory)
    Windows Explorer 4 - http://puu.sh/15qco (Video_TS directory)

Well according to one of your screen grabs you have two 4gig movies on one (assumedly) 4 gig dvd. That is not possible.

But I think the answer lies in the fact that you have recorded using VR mode (the clue is in the _RM folder) which is fooling dvdshrink in to thinking there are two movies on the disk. If indeed there are two movies on that disk and of equal running time then their size is being mis-informed by the program.

  3. Well, it's just the one 58 min title that is recorded. Is there any way to have the title as the ~2GB title it should be without quality loss/compression or re-recording the title?

Ok. Have not handled a VR disk in a while so the software is clearly being fooled.

You can 'rip' the movie from the disk using mpegstreamclip and then re-author a dvd from that. No loss of quality or re-encoding.

  5. I tried ripping to both MPEG and VOB with that but both still came out as 3.89GB as opposed to the ideal 1.95GB which it should be. Here's the MediaInfo if you can tell from that.

I do not know why you think that 1.95 gb is 'ideal' for a 58 min video. The size is dependant on the bitrate. If you previously had a recording of 58 min = 1.95 gb then the bit rate was approx 4000 kbps or in simple dvd-recording terms a '2 hour' recording'

Mpegstreamclip does not re-encode so what you now have is what was on the disk - the equivilent of a '1 hour' recording.

Of course if 'ideal' means that you want to put two of these on to one single layer disk then you will have to re-encode at a lower bit rate.
