If you have not done so, install the free VLC player. Will the DVD play on a PC?
Is it really DVD format? Or to put it another way, do you see a VIDEO_TS and an AUDIO_TS folder on the disc when you put it in a PC?
Is there any chance that this video could be PAL? Install Gspot or MediaInfo and open one of the largest VOB files in the VIDEO_TS directory. If you see 720x576 as a resolution and 25 fps (frames per second) then you have PAL video. Many DVD players spit out completely bogus and misleading errors when in fact they are trying to tell you "Your disc is PAL and I don't play that".
Did you burn this DVD yourself? If so, what brand is it? Bad quality brands have been known to go bad over time. Almost all DVD blanks sold in the USA now are bad quality. You basically have to buy good quality discs online unless you happen to live near one of the very few retailers who still sells good quality Verbatim discs. Anything Verbatim makes EXCEPT their cheap "Life" series is good quality.
