    Hi there,

I would like to know if there's any simple DV Capture application which can prevent framedropping (frame skip) by stopping and rewinding the camcorder and re-capture the missing part when a frame skip occurs. It would be really useful.

    Thanks in advance

I don't know of one. It sounds a great idea (if you could trust it).

WinDV reports frame skips for DV.

HDVSplit reports frame skips (and more helpfully, which file they occurred in) for HDV.

Given that 1990s hardware could capture DV without dropping frames, it shouldn't be too much of a challenge with modern hardware - though the amount of stuff which runs in the background without you knowing has increased to compensate, meaning it can be just as challenging with a 2012 PC as a 1998 one.

I disconnect my network cable when capturing. It's an easy way of stopping things downloading updates in the background!

    Cheers,
    David.

  3. DV capture is so foolproof these days why would you need such a feature? If your computer is badly configured you can't capture DV without dropping frames you should fix the computer.

    Thanks for your answers.

Well, of course I could live happily with this killing all the applications, but to be honest.. when was the last time you killed all other applications during downloading or copying a large file? If my plugged-in network cable causes frame drop in each second, well I'm pulling it out, but when some unidentifiable application or hardware device causes a multiple frame drop in every 20 minutes, it would be more simple to have an application like this. Almost every major interrupt to the OS causes frame drop at DV capture due to the defective design and implementation of the Firewire/DV combo.

DV capture is so foolproof these days why would you need such a feature?
The question is the answer. Framedropping has always been a problem at DV, so if it's foolproof, this feature must have already been implemented in most of the capture applications. Btw, DV is more than 10 years old. There must be an application which supports this.

My question is still the same. It's not enough if it reports dropped frames. I would like to have a capture application which can actually fix the sequence of captured frames when a frame drop occurs.
