VLC Player stuttering / choppy on playback

I am unable to playback .mts video files (AVCHD)

With VLC Player the whole thing judders .. plays one sec pauses one sec etc. both audio & video pause.

I have installed Haali media splitter and FFDShow.


On MPC-HC the video plays OK but the audio stutters.
Fikle info shows it is not using DXVA

a copy of mediainfo for a typical file is attached

I had this problem last year and eventually it was fixed, but returned .... I did reinstall OS, and it seemed OK .. recently VLC player had new version ... but problem is also on MPC

PC is W7 m/c plenty of RAM and has an nVidia 7900GS card.
