  1. Yes, i downloaded an .avi file and i cannot encode it to .mpg format. When i do, all i get is a black/blank screen (i get the audio though). I am using Tmpgenc for my encoding. I downloaded a few other programs to see if they would do it, and i get the error "Audio is in compressed format XXX program cannot encode compressed format" or i get something along the lines of "audio of this type is not supported."

When I try and watch the movie with media player or my Divx player, i can watch it with no problems, its encoding it to mpg that i can't get. I'm a newbie, so hopefully some of you experienced people can help me out.

    Thanks

  2. Is this a multi-pass encode you are attempting? If so, how many passes is it trying to do, and if you arorted the project, at what % complete did you pull the plug?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. I had NO luck using TMPgenc in trying to encode my .Avi to Mpeg/VCD. The thing that DID work was good old NERO 5.5, it worked with no trouble & automatically encoded the .Avi to Mpeg & Burned it automatically to VCD format, plays great in my DVD Player. Nero Rocks IMHO, glad I dumped Easy CD Creator 5 & got Nero, it's been a good investment & have yet to have a coaster.

  4. umm no i don't think is a "multipass-encode" <--(seeing as how i have no idea what that is )....and i pulled the plug at oh say 25%. I know that all it is encoding is the audio and no video cause on tmpgenc the "preview" option is turned on and all the "preview" shows is black. I inserted a different file (a mpg) into Tmpgenc and during the encode the "preview" showed the movie.....any ideas? i may try nero 5.5 but i'm going to have to cut the .avi first cause the movie is like 2.5 hours hehe.

    Thanks for all the help
