  1. Could an admin remove my Bluray post and instead keep this one?

After the 10 second mark I can see interlacing artefacts in the crowd on the top left and the top-right and on the hold applier's face. Can you guys please tell me if you can see the interlacing artefacts as a couple of people have told me they can't. I gave a Bluray to a friend of mine and he said he can see the interlacing issues and I can too so I don't understand how other people can't.

    Here's a DVD ISO: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/57941257/In...20Problems.iso
I assume you guys don't have a Rewritable Bluray discs so I just gave a DVD sample.

    Here's an MPEG2 clip: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/57941257/Or...few%20secs.mpg

I watched the clip on my AC Ryan Playon HD media player (which is only for use with a TV) and I can see the interlacing artefacts. I don't have a DVD player or Bluray player to test it on.

Can you guys see interlacing artefacts when watching the clip on your TV? I'm not interested on what it looks like on your PC, if I watch the MPEG2 in Windows Media Player I can't see any problems, it's what it looks like on your TV that matters.

If a clip (such as this one) is interlaced, the chances are that you WILL see some interlacing artifacts if your player does not de-interlace.

If people can not see them then the usual (IMO) reason is because either they do not know what to look for or they are simply accustomed to seeing them so they believe all is fine.

I have not burnt the dvd. Just watched the clip thro vlc with de-interlace off and also with it on to compare.

Of course. You always see interlace effects on computer playback. You won't see it if you play it in VLC Player (turn deinterlace on and set it for yadif), PowerDVD (deinterlaces during playback, I think uses simple bob()), or in VirtualDub with the deinterlace plugin loaded and set for yadif. The rest of the noise is from poor playback, tape noise, low bitrate artifacts, dirty or worn tape heads, tape line timing problems, and just bad transfer.

  5. Guys I was really just interested in knowing what it looked like on your TV which is why I gave a DVD ISO? I've never seen interlacing issues on my PC when viewing a video in Windows Media Player.

Sanlyn I've seen people mention that before where you always get interlacing when watching on your PC which I've always found strange. In VLC you do if you don't enable deinterlacing but I've never seen any interlacing issues in Windows Media Player on my PC monitor?!

  6. Both the MPG sample and the DVD, when played on the computer through MPC-HC with its deinterlacer turned off, show interlacing/combing/mice teeth - whatever you want to call it.

The ISO when burned to a DVD-RW and played on a DVD player to the TV, as expected, shows no interlacing.

I, for one, always keep the deinterlacer turned off. This is so I can more easily tell what kind of a video I have and I don't watch videos for pleasure on a computer anyway.

Not strange, when you consider this:

    • - Computers are set up for progressive display by default. This means that PC monitors and many media players (and VirtualDub by default) don't deinterlace. WMP will deinterlace, but not that well. WMP usually plays ugly.
    • - DVD/BD players, TV, etc., are set up for deinterlacing by default.

Like manono, I play my own video projects with deinterlace turned off (so I can see what I'm doing), then turn it on to see if I did something right.

I don't have a BD player or any BluRay discs. Yet.

The iso image (on a DVD-RW) plays on my standalone player and TV (CRT) without any interlacing visible.

The macro-blocking, softness, noise and timebase errors are the overriding defects I'm seeing.

holygamer; If you post a screenshot of what you're seeing, it'd help diagnose the problem.
