  1. i'm new here. i've been looking through several softwares to extract subs (or demux) from the mpg files i have. i tried tmpgenc, dgmpg, subrip, rejig and others. with one of them i tried a simple demux, and i got an error message. either i don't understand how to do it properly or they don't support mpgs. can anyone help?

ProjectX will extract subs from MPEG TS files derived from PVR's digital tv. You need to know the page number. To set the program up see my signature. However not sure from your post that says mpg's - normal mpg files don't contain subs - you need to far more specific about the source and what typle of file it is. eg VOB files on a DVD are a form of mpg and may contain subtitles - if this is the case then other software may be more appropriate.

Also if you indicate your country in your sig it will be lot easier to answer these type of questions as digital tv standards vary from country to country even in area that are nominally PAL or NTSC etc. The more information provided the better the answer is likely to be....

  3. this is where i won't be very helpful. all that i know is the videos are MPG, and somebody embedded CC/subs in it. probably CC, because he kept mentioning that, and there are other versions- CC1 to CC4. definitely NTSC. the cc/subs won't load in MPC HC, only in VLC. its definitely not .vob, but dunno whether its a "mpeg ts".

  4. Try CCExtractor then. Closed Captions are very different from subtitles. You should have mentioned it in your first post. Regular MPGs don't have real subtitles.

  5. ah that worked thanks! i had actually downloaded this before, but it didn't seem to work. turns out i had to use the arrows to scroll to the execute tab and start it. loading the subtitles in MPC HC does the trick- in VLC the CC was messed up sometimes, dunno why.

Get hold of MediaInfo and run the file through to get a report - use text mode and then you can copy and paste the results in a post. We can then see what type of file it is and what's in it. ie subs or cc

  7. i already was able to extract the CC. what i meant before is that running the MPG with the embed CC in VLC would have some of the text messed up. once i extracted the CC and loaded the subtitle in MPC HC, everything was perfect. so VLC might be the culprit.
