I used to use mpeg strmclp for converting video files (ie .avi to .mp4). now it seems it wont do it. it usually creates a file about 75MB or so (as opposed to the .5-2GB video files, full length movies). when attempting to open, in any media player, it just plays a black screen the entire time with no audio. i used to not have any problems doing this. i use all default settings (ie H.254, 50% quality, unscaled frame size, mp4 aac audio, etc).
    any suggestions?

Do you have Perian 1.2.3 installed for .avi playback?
If you open the .avi file in Quicktime Player Pro ( Or Quicktime X)
and perform the Media Info command ( Cmd -i) what
does it say about the .avi file?

Last, does the .avi file play perfectly in VLC, or does VLC ask to repair the file upon trying to open it in VLC?

im currently using a pc, so perian isn't applicable. i typically use vlc to watch videos without issue. when i open the converted file, however, it "plays" perfectly, meaning it doesn't ask to repair, etc, but it only displays a black screen and does not play any audio.
when attempting to open with wmp, it does the same thing as vlc.

Lombax, you'll probably get more help in the Windows forum, since you are using a PC.
I'll ask a mod to move your post.
