Hey folks, I am new here and love the wealth of info here. Thnx!
I have acquired a "dead" AG1980. After I plug it in and hit the power button, the first thing I hear is a "hissing" from the power supply area. I don't assume this is normal is it? I suspected capacitors but once I got into the unit, I didn't see any "bulged" or "leaking" there.
If I try to play a tape, it loads and wraps fine. The "video" image displays for about a second on the tv screen then quits. Its as if the motors just start to turn the tape, then quit. I have tried several tapes with the same result. The tapes play fine in other units. I figure if this "hissing" is a capacitor/ power supply problem, couldn't that be causing not enough power to turn the motors?
Just tried again and now getting an Fo4 error.
Any suggestions would be grateful. Thanks.
