  1. I bought a USB 2.0 VHS to DVD Converter Adapter VIDEO CAPTURE CARD which came with an EasyCap installation CD. I installed this Ulead Video software on my Lenovo laptop computer with some difficulty as it required obtaining a driver for the unit. However, this was contained in the CD and so after installing it, everything went well. I bought this item so that I could copy VHS tapes to my computer in order to make a DVD copy.
I then tried to install the CD on my desktop computer, also running Win7 and it crapped out completely, giving me a 5001 error. Can anyone help solve the problem as to why the software does install on one machine and not on another.
I do all of my editing on the desktop. The Ulead software looked particularly promising as it allowed me to capture video (and audio) from a DVD, which other editing software had not enabled me to do. I need this to prepare clips for classes or presentations.
Any help in getting this software installed on my main computer will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks for paying attention to this posting.

  3. Turn off Aero desktop, if that doesn't help then re-install.

Simply copy all the data from the disc to a flash drive using the laptop ... then install on the desktop using the flash drive.

It comes down to the fact that drives eventually become picky about media they'll read and eventual wear and tear ends the drives life cycle.
