How did you do the conversion? What software?
Are they film content? Like Hollywood movies? Then you should probably have inverse telecine (remove pulldown) and the frame rate should be 23.976 . If they were derived from film (or digitial equivalent), then 29.97 would have a duplicate every 5th frame, so it would stutter
If it was interlaced content (like sports video), then dvd would be 59.94i . In motion scenes, you should have bob deinterlaced to 59.94p instead of 29.97. That would preserve the fluidity of the motion like the original.
Very rarely do you have true 29.97p content on a DVD (but it's possible) -
29.97 fps is your problem. You're probably getting blended frames or repeat frames.

i am converter star trek voyager original dvd's to mkv. i use makemkv and they make the frame rate is 29.97p, i then use xmedia recode and it reads them at 59.97p then i force it to it's orginal rate of 29.97p. hope this helps. good info.
thanks.
