Hello,
I am a video newbie. I have been given the task of finding a way to "cheaply", convert numerous old Sony Hi-8 tapes to DVD. I've been looking at video capture devices that appear to do what we want. If I understand this correctly, I can run the tapes from the camcorder, through the converter, into a laptop (Win7 64-bit), then burn/rip to DVD.
Following are a few converters I've found:
Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 100 - $20
Diamond One Touch VC500 - $22
EasyCap DC60 - $7
Sabrent USB-AVCT - $17
Any suggestions, comments, or recommendations on these units or others would be greatly appreciated. Also, any concerns or problems I may be subject to.
Thanks,
SKK

More cheapo you could go with sony hi 8 camera ( i suppose you already have the camera ) to play the tapes DVD recorder panasonics are cheap jvc toshiba and such cirka 2004-2006 year you could find them for 20-30$ and it will gain you better quality ( and it will be faster ) than usb shit cards that you mentioned ( they are more intended for tv and pvr and are very sensitive to waky signals like VHS and 8/hi8 tapes and will give you crap quality.
If the tapes are in bad shape then you will have to go another route.
