I have been doing different little benchmark test to just see what my computer is capable of captureing, but something very weird is going on.
The hard drive I currently have in is only handle ATA33...I have an ATA100 on the way with an 8mb buffer, so HD lag shouldn't be an issue after that, but that's not what this is about.
I can capture just fine at 840x480, 29.97fps.... On the left, you see readouts of bandwidth and data that's being written per second. Under this resolution, it says that it's going about 7.5 megs a sec (approx)....but here's the WEIRD part. If I take the capture resolution up to 720x576, CPU usage drops to anywhere between 20 to 50 percent (Instead of 70 to 90 on 640x480), HD bandwidth goes from 7.5 megs a sec to about 3 megs....but it drops frames like no other!!! WHY?
One other small question...I currently have DirectX 8.0a on (I'm getting 8.1 right now). Do I have to enable it somehow in virtual dub (like in "Capture" where it says "Direct Draw Acceleration". I didn't notice a difference with it on, or off, but it may hae just been because it's an older version.
