I'm planning to convert Sony alpha SLT-a65 DSLR's FullHD 60p video to HDV format, what I really want is Grassvalley ADVC-110 (though outdated abit). I like Grassvalley's HDV codec! Only possible trouble is that ADVC-110 does not have HDMI input whose source is SLT-a65's playback feature is only working through HDMI output. I have figured out how to use ADVC-110 to capture HDMI input by this method: 1) connect SLT-a65 to LCD TV through HDMI 2) connect RCA cable to RCA output of the LCD TV and connect it to ADVC-110's RCA input. 3) playback SLT-a65 HDMI output. Is this workable?

Speaking rhythm is not as clear as I demanded---this is much simplified version of this method's figuring out: SLT-a65-->(HDMI)-->LCD TV--->(RCA composite)-->ADVC-110-->[Firewire]-->Computer.

    HDV format is normally 1440x1080 60i but 1440x1080 24p/30p and/or 1280x720 30p are sometimes supported.

The ADVC-110 is 720x480 60i standard def DV. Same resolution and frame rate as DVD.

It is rare that a LCD-TV will downscale HDMI in to composite out. Which model TV is this?

Normally the downscale will be done in a computer. The DSLR file would be read into the computer and processed to desired output format.

Few TVs will convert HDMI to composite. The ADVC-110 will will give you DV (standard definition), not HDV (high definition). The digital to analog (composite) to digital conversion will reduce image quality. You'll get far better (and faster, and cheaper) results (DV or HDV) by copying the files from the camera to the computer and converting in software.

Thanks for reply edDV and jagabo. ADVC-110 is DV!! I couldn't notice that. As you people told, I have to go alternative using converting software? Have searched on the web, but too many in that kind, so I can't make a good decision. Pro Coder 3 looks good, not sure relatively inexpensive ones than that can accomplish conversion task good. What software is the most great result possible? AVCHD to HDV?

Most people will buy an edit suite like Sony Vegas Platinum (prices vary US$ 60-99 typ) which handles 1080i60 AVCHD 1.0 format source input to Blu-Ray, DVD and other output. BUT, your Sony alpha SLT-a65 DSLR in 1080p60 mode is shooting AVCHD version 2.0 format which may not be supported yet in most consumer software. Best to call Sony tech suopport to see if the Sony alpha SLT-a65 is supported by the current version of Vegas Movie Studio. Let us know what they say.

AVCHD v2.0 happened recently. Most software will require an update or upgrade but Sony has the most reason to update early because they are selling version 2 cameras and camcorders currently. Rumor is most current Sony Blu-Ray players will get a firmware update to support version 2 AVCHD playback. I'll beleave it when I see it.

Hi again, people, I'm back to update the AVCHD 2.0 compatibility to Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I don't get SLT-a65 yet, tomorrow will be. Instead I checked up alternative method which looks up the trial version and see project properties window. File->Properties menu, I got following settings possible. I guess this one could be 1080p 60fps.

(I'm not familiar with this forum's function, so click to see the picture for bigger resolution, or download uploaded files)

Well, tomorrow when I get SLT-a65, I will update this thread that time too.

That should do it. Project properties should match the source format. On the export side you can save 59.94p for the future but current Version 1 Blu-ray players won't handle it. Alternatives are 1920x1980 60i or 1280x720 60p. Also 720x480 60i for DVD.
