If you JUST bought it, send/take it back if it's not working exactly as it says it's supposed to (which you would find out in the supplied manual). It's got to still be under warranty...

Scott; the lenses don't look far enough apart to give a proper 3D image. Shouldn't they be as far apart as human eyes? Maybe even further for an exaggerated 3D effect.

Yes, those lenses are quite close together. They're what's known as hypo-stereoscopic interaxial (smaller-than-normal), as opposed to ortho-stereoscopic ("right"-sized) or hyper-stereoscopic (larger than normal).

What you'll get from this is:
    1. Gigantism (things LOOK to be larger in scale than normal)
    2. Flattened depth (pancaked balls, as opposed to spherical balls or enhanced "footballs")
    3. Shortened area of "3d-ness". The point at which things appear to be infinite/2D background will be nearer.
    4. Improved close distance 3d.

So, basically, some good points and some bad points. Depends on what you intend to use it for...

edit: note that some of those things can be adjusted in post, but those do tend to affect OTHER aspects as well.
