I have both VLC and mpchc, but I find VLC looks better with lower rate video and I use it more often.
However, I ripped my Lord of the Rings to DVD-9 on my HD with DVDFab HD Decrypter (ie. I assume no encoding) yesterday. It plays a bit choppy in places with VLC but not mpchc. I wasn't expecting this.
I'm using an i3 with 4 Gb and no frakkin' codec packs. My monitor is 60Hz. And I'm just curious if anyone else has had this issue with VLC.

It's 1.1.0, not that old.
I've seen the release of a newer version in the Tools section before but it seems to be beta and I don't generally do beta. -
Thanks, but I'm not really that interested in debugging if I have another program installed that works.

OK, problem solved. poisondeathray, you were right about versions. As I've been told a number of times by knowledgeable buddies, VLC is kind of buggy. They're right.
Uninstalling 1.1.11 and installing 1.1.05 works fine. Plays VOBs without a hitch.
Apparently I shouldn't stream from the web with this version, which I don't do anyway. -
